Paintings

The idea behind these small paintings(9x12) was to have no preconceived idea as to what the final piece would look like.
I begin by choosing one color and randomly applying it until I see some recognizable shapes taking form.
Then I fill in and define the shapes with a minimal use of colors in order to keep the paintings simple. The whole process I believe is similar to automatic writing. I let the experience of painting flow through me. It's a freeing process.

Puerto Rico Live Art Exhibit

Rincon held its first live art exhibition, featuring artists from the western side of the island.  Over two dozen artists displayed their work, and they painted.  Although some artists didn't like the constant interruption from inquisitive spectators, others just ignored the crowds and painted.
Several musical and dance groups also participated, and the tiny Rincon plaza swoll with over 400 persons at several parts of the day.
The weather was beautiful, and during the morning, extremely hot, but around mid day, cool air descended and it just made for a wonderful afternoon.
The youngest artist is 14 year old John Henry Ramos, painting since he was 4.

Puerto Rico Blind Painter

This is Daniel Hernandez.  He is a painter, but what sets his work apart from others is that Daniel is legally blind.  He creates paintings to touch.  His paintings are not what you see, but what you feel.
Daniel Hernandez Explains his idea behind his paintings. His images are in the texture beneath the paint. He views blindness as an inspiration.  (There is a flag hidden above)

"I want to change the way for those who see, to exchange positions with those who do not see.
Once you touch the art, the work changes in your mind, and gives you a different perspective."
Daniel does nudes and landscapes, and you would not know it unless you touched his paintings.
He also writes in braille, so he speaks through his work.

Mango Beach

There's a great small beach shop in Puntas, and it's called Mango Beach.   It's almost across the street from the Tamboo Bar, at Sandy Beach.

They've  got everything from T-shirts, bathing suits,  seaglass jewelry and tropical nick-knacks.  They've got  tropical arts and crafts made in Puerto Rico.  One of the oddest things I've seen at  some of the souvenir shops  are  Puerto Rico souvenirs Made in China.  I can't believe it.  Would you take home a Puertorican momento Made in China?

Mango prides itself in selling handmade local and Caribbean things.  I know many of the artist that place their crafts here.  If you need to take something home for somebody, you have to visit this place.  They have something for everybody.

Their number is 787-823-2100.  They're open daily from 10-6.
